The Tesla Model 3 is one of the most popular electric vehicles in the world. In this video, we compare the features and benefits of the Model 3 against those of the brand new EV from Hyundai, the Ioniq 5.

The new 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is the latest EV to hit the markets. Even though this new EV is kinda classified as a crossover/SUV, really it is a very large hatchback. How large? Well the IONIQ 5's wheelbase is the longest in their line-up including their large 3 row SUV Pallisade.

Why are we comparing the Model 3 to the IONIQ 5 instead of the Model Y which is more similar in size? It's because in Canada, the IONIQ 5 starts at $44,995 for the base RWD and tops out at $59,995 CDN for the top AWD Long range trim which is the exact same starting price as the base RWD Tesla Model 3. The Model Y starts at just under $77,000 for the long range dual motor which is 17K more than the top IONIQ 5 plus it does not qualify for any incentives or rebates whereas the IONIQ 5 does making it even less expensive.

Our tested model features 20" aero wheels, 414 kms or 257 miles of range, 320 horespower and 444 lb.ft of torque and a very zippy 0-100 km/h 0-62 mph in just 5.1 seconds. The IONIQ 5 also has one of the fastest charging systems out there with the ability to take advantage of both 400 or 800V charging systems and can bring the EV from 10-80% charge in just 18 min with +250kw DC fast charger. A home Level 2 charger will fill up the battery in under 7 hours.

One thing we noticed on our tester was the lack of a rear wiper. Normally this would not be a big deal as other vehicles we've tested or own don't have a rear wiper but on this IONIQ 5, it's different. Because of the very short overhangs , the rear wheels seem to bring up all the road spray and coat the rear window with lots of visibility robbing muck. This may be a limited problem to those who live in wetter climates like we do here in the Pacific Northwest but still a very annoying problem.

This is a very important test for Everyday Reviews as we are on the hunt for our next vehicle and the IONIQ 5 is at the top of our list and really checks almost all our boxes. Have a look at the video and stay tuned for our upcoming review  "Did we buy it"
